What are cookies
Cookies are usually strings of text that websites, visited by the user and/or different websites or web servers (so-called "third parties") place and store within a terminal device in the user's availability. Software for browsing the Internet and operating these devices, e.g., browsers, may store cookies and then transmit them back to the sites that generated them on a subsequent visit by the same user, thus maintaining memory of his or her previous interaction with one or more websites. The information encoded in cookies may include personal data, such as an IP address, user name, unique identifier, computer resource locator (URL), or e-mail address, but may also contain non-personal data, such as language settings or information about the type of device a person is using to browse the site.
How cookies work
Cookies can therefore perform important and diverse functions, including tracking sessions, storing information about specific configurations regarding users accessing the server, facilitating the enjoyment of online content etc. They can, for example, be used to keep track of items in an online shopping cart or information used to fill out a computer form.
Cookies can be generated directly by the operator of the website consulted ("first-party cookies") or generated by parties other than the site operator, hosted on the page itself ("third-party cookies")
If on the one hand it is through cookies that it is possible to allow, web pages to load faster, and correctly transmit information over a network - in line therefore with fulfillments strictly related to the very operation of websites -, again through cookies it is also possible to convey behavioral advertising and then measure the effectiveness of the advertising message, i.e. to conform type and mode of services rendered to the user behavior subject to previous observation. Thus, two macro-categories can be identified:
- technical and functionality cookies, generally necessary for the proper functioning of the website and to allow navigation, authentication in restricted areas, make online purchases. They are necessary to display the page correctly and to use the services provided; they facilitate the consultation of the site, storing certain language settings, display settings, and so on. Within this macrocategory also fall analytics cookies (of first or third parties), only if they are used to collect information, in aggregate form, appropriately anonymized in compliance with regulatory indications, in order to improve the service rendered to the same.
The use of technical and functionality cookies does not require the user's consent in accordance with the provisions of Directive 2009/136/EC, the provision of the Garante of May 8, 2014 and the "Guidelines cookies and other tracking tools - June 10, 2021."
Disabling technical cookies could create malfunctions and prevent the user from viewing the site.
- Profiling cookies, aimed at creating profiles related to the user and used to promote offers in line with the preferences expressed by the user when browsing the web. Since these tools are not necessary for the proper functioning of the site but are used exclusively to customize information and advertising offered to the user, they require the user's consent, which can be freely revoked at any time without prejudice to the processing prior to revocation (art. 6, co. 1, lett. a) of the GDPR)
In line with the most recent regulatory indications, "Guidelines cookies and other tracking tools - June 10, 2021," the list of cookies present on the website can be consulted, with related information on their operation and data processing generated. The user thus has the possibility to freely choose which cookies to activate or not, with the exception of the technical and functional ones, which are strictly necessary to allow, as explained above, the proper functioning of the website.
Recipients and data retention period:
For technical reasons only, data may be processed by parties duly designated as Data Processors. The retention periods are listed among the information about each cookie, in the list. Personal data may also be disclosed to public entities if required by law.
For all information regarding the processing of personal data collected through third-party cookies by their operators - including timelines and any transfers of personal data to non-EU countries - please refer to the updated disclosure links, in the cookie list.
Rights of data subjects
The user is informed, of the existence of the right to request access to his or her personal data, to rectification, deletion of the same, restriction of the processing of data concerning him or her, to object to their processing, to data portability.
Since the processing also has a legal basis on the consent given by the user (Art. 6, § 1, lett a or Art. 9, § 2, lett. a), the right to withdraw consent at any time is recognized without affecting the lawfulness of the processing based on the consent given before the withdrawal.
Data subjects may lodge a complaint before a supervisory authority.
If the Cookie policy is integrated together with the privacy policy, in a single comprehensive disclosure, the rights of data subjects will probably already be stated in another paragraph (no need to repeat them)
Additional information
Each user can configure their browser not to automatically accept cookies (through settings preconfigured by the manufacturers of the software used).
On this website, you can continuously change your choices through the link: "Cookie Policy - Review Your Cookie Choices" found in the footer of the website.
